On this new sickle mower I just bought, how much can I expect to pay for a complete rebuild of the sickle bar itself? The unit I have is not the one with the crazy wheel that attaches to the drawbar but the one that attaches directly to the rear of a "M".
I'm not having this done, I'm doing this myself. I'm just interested in finding out how much those of you who have done it already have paid for parts.
I've started to disassemble the bar itself. I see I will need some more of those carriage type bolts that retain the guards and clamps to the bar.
I will need a set of knives and the little blades that rivet into the guards as well as their rivets.
I'm thinking I'll get the bolts from the hardware store if IHC wants too much for them. I may even go with stainless too. The bearings in the pulley drive assembly feel nice so I might not have to change them. Either way they will get torn down in the rebuild and packed with grease. I'm blasting the whole unit piece by piece and giving it a good undercoat of POR-15 then a topcoat of red. It will also be converted to 3 point cat 3 as well.
Can you guys give me an idea of the parts cost on these?
The wooden pitman arm needs changing too. Do you guys make your own or buy them from somewhere? I was thinking of cutting one from a ash or hickory hoe or shovel handle or making one out of oak or cypress.
