Thanks for the input on my now-running carb installation! I will run it daily for the next week and let you know what happens. Now that I am sure this puppy is a runner, and since it is likely to get some serious drive time now, time has come to change the last of the fluids...namely the oil. I am going to take off the valve cover and clean all that gray goo from the upper surfaces. Might tidy up the rest in there if it is dirty but I don't recall it being terribly bad.
Two questions. Tractor will be run mostly in warm weather but sometimes in the winter just to keep new gas in the carb. What oil would be best? Synthetic or traditional? Detergent? I know this is asked often but I have a terrible time with the search on this site.
Second question. When the oil is drained, can I dump something into the fill spout rock it around and then drain the pan again to make sure I have it flushed out? The current oil was good enough to work on the engine but is dark. The tractor sat for a couple of years and I worry about sediment and other crud in the pan. Awful proud of this baby and would like to see good clean oil in her! Thanks guys!
