Loose balls in the gear box

While in the process of restoring my '52 Cub I decided to look inside the transmission just to do a visual and guess what? I find 1 ball bearing laying on top of an oil trough to collect splash off of the gears and direct oil to the front and rear clutch shaft bearings. It appears to be the same size as the shift shaft "poppet" or detent bearings. I also removed the 1 & reverse shaft for the shift fork and as I drove out the shaft right behind th expansion plug was another of the same size bearings???? Anyone ever see anything like this? I had better keep looking for other problems.
