I grew up on a dairy farm too, but I always liked the mechanical repair and went to work for the Federal Government in 1951 after finishing school and my brother joined the Air Force since he knew he going to be drafted. I was going to join with him, but my mom didn't want two sons going to war and started bawling. I told she had better come to terms with this since I would probably be drafted. I was drafted later in 1953 and I got married too. I was rehired back with the government at Aberdeen Proving Ground until I retired. I forgot to mention I helped my late dad with morning milking up until the day I was drafted. We tested all those vehicles for the military like the M1A1 Tank, Bradley and M88 Recovery Vehicle to name few. Our daughter was born at Ft Bragg NC. Hal
