Karl, my advice to you is to not worry about it. Once the serial number tag is gone, it's gone. Unless you can trace the tractor's history, AND the previous owner(s) still have the paperwork with the serial number listed, you'll never know what the original serial number was. The mower manufacturer likely realized that the tag would be covered by the mower frame, removed it, and gave it to the dealer in an envelope with the instructions, "Keep this with the tractor."
