Was changing the oil filters on an IH 856D. After removing the canister, I pulled the oil filter out and poured the oil into a bucket. Not only poured oil out but a few parts, i.e. a spring base, a spring, and a retaining ring. Seems the retaining ring that holds the spring and spring base down in the center of the oil filter will no longer seat in the groove. Not sure if replacing the ring will work or the groove is worn to the point that it won't hold. Has anyone had this problem before and if so how did you fix it? Also, wondering if that spring base and spring could be left out. Seems that the base that the filter sits on is also spring loaded and serves to push the filter up against the top of the canister so the oil goes through the filter. Any help/comments/experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!
