The carburator question thread got me to wondering if anyone has heard of someone putting fuel injection on IH gas motors. I'd imagine the larger 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder motors would see a big difference in all-around fuel economy. They tell me carburators have "rpm sweet spots" where the power and fuel burned is optimized and that at other rpm settings the air-fuel ratios are not as optimal whereas fuel injection enables every rpm to be air-fuel optimized. I figure throttle port injection from a late 80's/early 90's 4 cylinder GM motor could be fitted on the four cylinder motors and a similar throttle body injection system from a 6 cylinder GM motor on the 6 cylinder IH motors. Any you boys or girls put fuel injection on your older gas IH iron? At today's gas prices, it would be interesting to see if it would save $6 - $10/day for a hard worked tractor.
