RINGS--which side is up

When I removed the old rings I took notice of which side had the beveled edge. The beveled edge was up. The new rings show that if they have a stamped dot on them, (they do) that side goes up. They also have a beveled edge, which if the dot goes up, the beveled egde goes down. If they did not have the dot, the beveled edge is shown as being up. Am I correct to assume that the dot is the determining factor and that I should disreguard the remaining info? THank you SDE
