Connecting the charger or booster cables to those locations remote from the battery works just as well as connecting directly to the battery. And, it's a HECK of a lot safer! If you've ever witnessed a battery explosion, you'll know what I mean! If doing it that way didn't work for you, you had a poor connection, either at the booster cable locations, or netween the battery cables and the battery posts.
