Finally, here's a close-up of the front door of my grandparent's house after 49 blizzard....grandad got out of the house through a west window initially... Also of interest, Allen mentioned that they still farmed with horses then. Around here, no farming, but most everyone fed hay in the winters with horses...and the old-timers always say that the '49 blizzard was what got everyone to finally switch from feeding with horse teams to go to tractors.....not sure why, but that's always mentioned as the turning point, at least in these parts.
