You need to do as Hugh suggested on using a test lite or a volt meter to check to see if there's voltage at your switch in the on position. Make sure you have voltage going to the switch. This is usually fed voltage off the starter solenoid. If the engine cranks you must be getting voltage when in the start position. Check for a ballast resistor between the ignition switch and the coil. With the points open you should have voltage on both small terminals on the coil. No voltage present check for a broken wire or a bad connection at the switch or coil. Clean those points with some 320 wet or dry and make sure they are set at .020" gap.
