your case i-h dealer will have a replacement regulator that will change over from the cut-out reg to the later style. it comes with all the instructions, pretty easy swap. take the genny in and have it tested to be sure its ok before you put the new reg on, best to take them both in at the same time. re the ignition, the wiring is pretty easy. you will find from the postive cable on the battery, it goes to the starting switch. there should be a wire coming off the post on the starter switch goes to the ignition switch, then goes to the coil. check for power at each connection. from the coil, the other wire runs to the distributor, hooks up to the points and condenser. if you got power to the coil, go into the distributor with the ignotion on, open and close the points with a screwdriver, put the coil wire near the engine to see if you got a spark jumping. you should see some sparks at the breaker points when they open and close, and get a good spark about 1/4 inch coming out of the coil wire. if not, could be bad coil, or bad points and condenser
