Farmall B, Distillate/Kerosene or Gasoline

I recently bought a 1941 B for $150. The serial tag has no X1 suffix, but the hood has no hole for a starting tank. The manifold (or remains of it) looks to be a gasoline manifold. It was rusted beyond recognition, but appeared not to have a heat valve in it. The cylinder head part number matches the only one listed in my 1941 Parts Book. When I removed the head, the pistons were pop-ups, so someone had juiced the engine earlier. (The weird thing is that the pop-ups are smooth dual domes, not the stepped raised type, any ideas?) It has no shutters or brackets. I was wondering if they removed all the distillate equipment and replaced the hood with a gasoline version. I also have a 1952 Super C (for $150 also) and it has no -X1, and has no distillate equipment on it either. Was the -X1 suffix not put on some gasoline tractors, or is it a hard, fast rule that no suffix is definitely a distillate/kerosene model?
