1981, 5800 actual hours supposedly, dash/tach/gauges all work. Some different shades of red paint on it, been painted. It was an estate tractor, then a gentleman bought it and kept it for a "short" amount of time and traded it in on something with front wheel assist. It was supposedly never in the field, used only for haying/ranching but no loader ever. The engine paint doesn"t match the original paint on the tractor, things like the oil filter brackets and other bolted on things are also a different shade than the engine, so they weren"t painted at the same time. The dealer said that the gentleman said that he was told... before he bought the tractor that it had a remanufactured engine put in it at some point.... The engine starts right up, don"t see any unusual smoke, there is an amount of blow by, not a whole lot, but there is some. When you put the transmission from park to high, it has some difficulty both going in, and then after thinking it should be in, it popped out of gear. A person could get it in after some fiddling, and it would stay in after it was, shifting 1-4 on the go worked good, high stayed in, no funny noises or vibrations. High bothered almost every time you would shift out and try to shift back in. The dealer got in it, had trouble too, said it probably needed adjustment. They just put a new clutch in so I don"t know why if it was just adjustment in the shifter that they didn"t already have it done. T/a seemes to be good, they say the hydraulics would be tested for pressure before delivery if I would buy. Cab seat is poor, but useable. Not bad looking otherwise. First are those hydraulics on the "81s a lot of trouble, how much to repair, etc.? Second, there is a little blowby, what"s too much? Does the shifting thing sound like a problem? They will deliver it 180 miles for $12k total purchase. Ridiculously high perhaps but that"s in line with others I have looked at in this area. Should I buy the thing? There"s one closer that isn"t bad, don"t know the total hours but I didn"t see blowby, and it shifted into what gears I tried well. It needs to have a t/a put in it, it doesn"t have one at all now (direct), but I think I need the slower speed for some applications. Decent condition, older, old style hydraulics, dash doesn"t work, a little cheaper but same ballpark.
