Duane: I'd have a tendancy to keep what you have. Neither one are big hour tractors, and you must know exactly what condition they are in. Here is my reasoning having farmed a few years and had at least one new Farmall from every series from letter series through to 66 series. IH's finest was 56 series and it was down hill after that, they were nickel and diming those tractors to death. In the 3 or 4 years those 88 series tractors were built, I saw more of them down for repairs at dealers than all 06, 26, 56, 66 and 86 series combined. Bear in mind I'm talking up to 1990 as I really haven't paid a whole lot of attention since. Now, if I take you back to that area, the dealer never sold many 88 series, Deere had taken over. I had a Deere of that vintage myself, and had I stayed in farming there would have been more Deere. When I started farming Deere was a non issue, because of dealer. IH had 70% of the market in the area. Today there is no CaseIH dealer and hasn't been since 1998. One other matter, a fan shaft through a radiator has got to be one of the most stupid pieces of engineering ever developed. Fine when it's new and everything is tight. What a nightmare it must be to work on. Even a simple task like changing a fan belt has to be complicated.
