More Super C Problems

I got it running, fineally. It ran for about 30 seconds and because of the fact that I don't know quite what I'm doing when it comes to timing an engine, here's what I did and what happened; When I it started it, I let it run for about 30 seconds and I thought I would try and adjust the timing a little, so I turned the distributor slightly to the right, clock wise from my mark on the distributor. Well, when I did that it made a bang and quit. I tryed several times to start it but it seems like it turns over slow, like the battery is running low, but it's fully charged and I had it load tested, the battery checks out good. Now, it's getting spark and I can smell fuel, so I think it's getting fuel but it just turns over slow and it seems like not fast enough to start the engine. Could I have jumped the timing on it or are my valves not set properly? Or did I break something? As always, any help is a blessing.
