Thanks to all of you for trying to help. Mr. Wickfield's question is good....I asked my tractor mechanic (an old Farmall mechanic) a month ago if he replaced the pivot shaft bushings and he said "Yes". But I'm now thinking that if a top bushing is worn, then the sector gear/shaft might be able to "pull away" from the worm gear to make the play that I'm finding. How do you replace that top bushing? Does this shaft have to come out the bottom again? If so, how do you get the bushing off the shaft? Once this problem is cured, I will have a "perfect" tractor to play with....it sure is fun for an old codger to tool down the road on a family heirloom.
