Replacing garder springs in Hydra-Touch control va

I took the Hydra-Touch control apart on my 300u and replaced O rings, gaskets, etc. I bought new garder springs (old ones were broke), but can not get them in for the life of me. Is there a tool, or trick, to do this? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks for reading.
