Many of you know me on this forum, I am 58, retired teacher, run a 100 ACRE FARM, LOVE CATTLE AND fARMALLS....well Monday I had a stroke.....I was waiting for some guys to pick up calves at the farm and decided to wheel a few loads of stone to the house for a rock garden I am making , on the fourth load I had dropped two into the wheel barrow,about 40-50 pounders, I turned to pick up another and the rock pile went blurry, I was immediately dizzy, my left leg felt like it was asleep, my left arm went numb and I fell and rolled off the side of the gangway...at that very moment two neighbours drove in to help us load calves and they saw me go down, they helped me up and I sat down on a hay bale beside the barn door...I knew, I have taken several St John's Ambulance courses and CPR lifesavers, I said I had to get to the hospital ASAP I was there within 30 minutes,in emerg, and was given some pill to chew, my bloodpressure was 174/96, the feeling came back to my arm and leg, experienced head ache for two days no apparent long term damage. I have a cat scan tommorrow and some other tests next week. The reason I wanted you to read this was for you! I considered myself healthy, have a yearly physical, don't smoke, not overweight..well by maybe 20-25, do physical work everyday and considered myself in good shape, have lots of stamina and always capable of doing my physical share...HAD NO IDEA MY BLOODPRESSURE WAS HIGH!..DANGEROUSLY HIGH! Get yourself checked out, the nurse at work, the drugstore your doctor..get your bloodpressure checked and don't run the risk I did. All the work and money I put into the farm, my cattle ,my tractors don't mean a thing if I am paralysed and can't walk or work them...this was my warning, I was being looked after, HE sent my neighbours, He kept me safe, He has looked after me...remember my friends I was just like you , healthy and felt that nothing could happen to a healthy guy like me, now I am scrambling to get all my medical tests done, I am on aspirin and my blood pressure has come down to 139/89, a better but not perfect reading, incidentally my yearly physical was booked for tomorrow...NO SYMPATHY PLEASE, ALL I WANT IS FOR YOU TO go and get yourself checked for blood pressure, Monday night was the last thing I would have ever guessed! Be safe out there and know that I don't want this to happen to any of you..its so simple!! FINE IN EXETER ONTARIO..MIKE
