H smoking

I bought an H last weekend that had been sitting for at least 25 years. I checked the oil and was surprised to see it was nice and clean and much more to my surpirse, it turned easily and was not frozen up. When I drained the oil, there was some water in the pan...but I thought this could be expected from condensation. After running it, there is no water in the oil. Carb, coil and the fuel plumbing were missing. I cleaned the gas tank, did the plumbing, and put a carb on it...hooked it to the battery...and bang, it ran---and runs good...but IT SMOKES LIKE that train you see in the movies going across the horizon. I hooked it to a trailer loaded with lumber and drug it around for about an hour on the road and across a plowed field..smoking did not improve. JUST WONDERING, is there someway to scuff up these walls and get the rings seated without tearing this thing down? In 1955 when they were having trouble with the 55 Chevrolet buring a quart of oil per 100 miles, they recommended to the dealers to feed some Bon Ami through it....Any thoughts??
