Hi Ken in Alberta, to muck out a horse barn easily, make sure the 444 has power steering and hydraulic dump on the bucket and the bucket has tines on it. There were two types of buckets, one type was called a gravel bucket and this is similar to what you see on a industrial front end loader like a CAT loader. The other was an agricultural bucket with tines on it like a fork with an optional "dirt plate" that could be installed over the tines to make it somewhat of industrial type bucket. The problem with this "dirt plate" was that if the tines become slightly bent or twisted is was almost impossible to install or remove the "dirt plate".
If your horse manure has lots of straw in it then you will require the bucket with the tines or the manure straw mixture will just roll in front of the bucket. Hope it is an IH 1501 or 1550 loader with hydraulic controls mounted on right side of loader frame. If it is 2250 loader this loader is to heavy for 444, require 584, 684 size tractor.

If the rear tires are not loaded with calcium/chloride solution then put some weight on the rear 3pt hitch. Neighbour had made a big cement block for his with a steel rod through it that he just put onto the 3pt hitch when he was doing loader work.

Re seat, I have seen replacement seats at TSC. We replaced a seat on the B414 (older model) that we had and all we had to do was frabricate two mounting brackets as the seat is only attach at two places on the casting of the hydraulic reservior.

Enjoy

Today's Featured Article - Box Plow Blues - by Tom Schwarz. One of the first implements most tractor owners obtain is the box plow. For very little money, this piece of equipment promises to plow and flatten any hill or vale on your ranch road or farm. At least that's what I thought! As simple as a box plow appears, it can be rather challenging to make work correctly. In our sandy soils of Florida, traction is king. You can never have wide enough tires or heavy enough weights to get all the traction you want … unless you own a monster tractor. U ... [Read Article]
