Tim ......an M grill will fit , but you won't have the "cutivator brace" holes (thus it will be "cosmetically" incorrect) MD hoods & fuel tanks are the same as SMTAD(but the M gas is not) .......the TA does NOT make the tank or the hood longer cause the extra TA length is compensated for behind the fuel tank ( there's a gap between the tank & the stearing wheel post) the reason the MD , SMTAD & SMTA hoods are longer than the M gas hoods is in the front casting (the piece where the side rails bolt to)- this piece is about 1.5 inches longer , thus the hood needs to be longer to "reach" the grill
