my w-40 has a red diamond international truck engine in it, i forget which one.the tractor governor and clutch will fit on these. there are several red diamond engines and this appears to have been a common thing to do to get some more horsepower out of an already good horse tractor. i have seen some even run the truck distributor and this is really dependable.mine has the tractor governor so we run a mag.i think our engine is a 504? 450 red diamonds are common.if you have the original block for the tractor governor keep it! the tractor starter has to be used as the truck starter will not fit but we have made some w-9 starters work bolted in at an angle (kind of wrong but it works!).the tractor water pump also needs to be used, but i did adapt a truck fan and water pump with a plate and some engineering.so boys, keep those bad engines for parts and you can put in the good truck engines that look like original. a friend of a friend said that his dad got a brand new w-40 with a truck engine in it in leu of the tractor engine in the late 30's. could be.
