I had a similiar problem with my cub last winter. I finally got it started by taking out the sparkplugs and squirting light weight oil in each cylinder. I then turned it over slowly by hand and then let it set awhile. I believe I had dry cylinders, which left me with little compression or you could say very little vacuum to suck up the gas from the carb. I finally got it started with the battery and I should mention it ran rough until I burned the excess oil out of the cylinders. My my real problem is it needs a ring job, which I hope to tackle in the near furture.
