Yes that is true. But they are also talking about newer car motors that only hold 5 quarts if they are lucky. With 8 quarts in the pan that 9th quart probably won't foam enough and the other 8 quarts probably won't get all sucked out at once to starve the pump. I don't know just how deep the crank goes into the pan on these engines but there may be room for another quart or 2. It's not like today where they build everything on the cheap. And on top of that today (on a v-8) they have 5 quarts going to 16 lifters, 2 rocker shafts with 16 rocker arms, 3 or 5 main bearings, and 8 connecting rod bearings, plus the cam, with no room under the crank for a 6th quart. On these old machines they have 8 or 9 quarts going to what, 3 or 4 mains, 4 con rods, 8 rockers, and the cam. Now why is it so important to keep that oil off the crank in these newer motors? A whopping 5 quarts of oil, that's why. But I'm no expert so every automotive engineer out there will probably tell me i'm full of it. But they can save a dime stamping their oil pans and sell a new motor a few years down the road because they saved that dime now and someone ran their oil 20,000 miles and the sludge from having such a small amount of oil pumped through the motor so many times wouldn't lubricate anymore. But unless we've a degree hanging on the wall we don't know what we're talking about, like we can't think about things and see why this causes that, right? well, to that I say, let my motor hold more oil, or I will find a way to let it hold more oil, and go 20,000 miles on an oil change too!!!!
