I've got a 3414 and have completely restored it. Mine does not have a pto, I completely went through the transmission due to a busted gear, there are no snap rings in the transmission other than the 3" snap rings that go to the axles there are 2 of them. They are behind the 2 large drive gears. this snap ring that you described 1.5" probably got in the gear box by someone dropping it in there, the shifter has a 1.5" external snap ring on it, this tractor's gear shifter came with two locking methods being either a snap ring external or a cotter key, the order on the shifter assembly is rubber seal, water cap, rubber 0-ring, washer, spring, washer, snap ring, I busted a gear by turning the wheel on asphalt while the rearend was locked. something had to give. If anyone could help me with mine, I do not have an original seat, I would appreciate a photo e-mailed to me of how the seat bolts to the cap on the transmission, when I got it the seat was welded on it. my e-mail is tbh2a@yahoo.com

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
