The DT361 is not and engine for a novice to rebuild as it has some quarks and after rebuild if not done correctly will come unguled fast. When they are correct in every way they will start with out either sometimes down to 0 . Propper valve placement in the head as far a s valve resession or protrusion is one of the factors as to how well they will start and how well the rings seat in , then comes the pump and injectors if the cranling pressure on the pump is low and the cracking or breaking pressure of the injector is down then the spray pattern will be off and this will lead to a hard start along with the timming of injection. To do a super job on rebuild one MUST have the block done from top to bottom and if it has not had the bore redone and the oversized sleeves installed to correct the core shift that does happen in the 361-407 and the sleeve checked from top to bottom for any wrinkening and trued up it will seeze up fast and send a rod out the side of the block . So a line bore , decking of the block correcting the center line of the bore total rebuild of the head and getting the valve heads set to correct hight fitting each piston to the bore that it is going to be installed in and even a balance job is in order then ya got a engine that will give you years of service . And don"t be cheep on it use only quality parts and service .
