Personally I would doubt that there is much of anything that will eat that teflon tape. When you take a fitting apart that had the tape in it always looks balled up to me. My guess would be that the pipe fittings are made in china with more gaps to leak. I would use a pipe dope compound or I even use Permatex silicone gasket sealant ( the blue stuff) on pipe fittings once in a while with good results. Paul
