Reading the discussions below I"ll thought I"d tell my story. My oldest son hauls milk, he kept telling me about this ol 14 at one of his stops. The farmer kept trying to sell it to Phil ( my son) for 4500 . The motor had been majored about 400 hours ago but it needs a torque. He said he ran it out of fuel last spring and hasn"t started it since. Phil told another guy on his route about it. The guy went to see it and told the owner he wanted it. They bought new batteries & 5 gal of diesel. They got it started & while it was running the owner said when do you want to pay & pick it up. The " buyer" replied oh I"m not going to buy it I just need to use it this winter to feed with. He shut it off & walked away. When Phil went to pick him up that night he said give me 3000 & get it the he77 off the farm. I picked it up next morning ( 2 weeks ago). Got it home & unloaded it in the shop by the time I got some other things done it had been 5 hours. I got in it & started it and it ran good I looked down and no oil pressure . Before I could shut it off it locked up.The top of the muffler was rotted out & rain water got in it all summer. Ice was around the oil pickup. I don"t know how long the owner ran it but I wish he would have 30 seconds longer. I pulled the motor & took it apart . The cam still had oil on it & wasn"t hurt. The rod bearings still showed a little oil ( very little) but the mains were a different srory. I don"t think they were blue from the factory. This crank had already been turned 20 & I won"t run a 40 I bought a standard crank if it checks out for 700 called 3 dealers for prices on overhaul kit & torque I don"t know why but their was 950 in price difference. The high priced dealer was trying to sell me Tisco parts. I bought a IH kit, bearings, sleeves, pistions ,rings & gaskets with the front & rear main seals & extra gaskets for 950 I bought the 5 year torque for 600
I still think when its done I"ll have a tractor well worth the money

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
