If you choose a silicone sealer a real good trick is to clean etc. Then apply to both surfaces and instal the bolts leaving about a 1/4 inch silicone gasket. Let it set for 24 hrs. then tighten, this way you actualy get a compressed gasket, and not just bonding two surfaces. I do this on the ones that coperate like the mother in law.
