Stan, Collapsed is the same as retracted, closed. Just make sure the ram is fully retracted and I believe that's all the way toward the seat if it is like the one on a Cub. This allows all the fluid to go back into the reservior from the ram so you get nearly a complete change of oil. As Phil mentioned about metal pieces in the old fluid, when I change oil in any thing I let the stream of used oil flow over a large speaker magnet which sits on the screen at the top of my oil drain pan. After the oil drains off of this magnet I check for shavings, slivers of metal or any other unusual debris. You can sure be forwarned of possible future catastrophic failures using this trick.
