Alann: No pain on your part, just the generator. I know how you feel, went through all the same 12 years ago. Generators just putting out a trickle of charge, had a bananna box full of regulators, etc. and batteries didn't last anytime. I was using my SA and 130 in commercial farming back then. One day the generator on my SA caught fire. I went to an auto electric shop, where I did considerable business. I said," I have a new 6 volt battery, how can you get me going quickly and on 6 volt?" He responded, " Quick for that old generator will be 2 weeks as I don't have parts, Quick for a 6 volt alternator with built in regulator will be 5 min." He changed the built in regulator from 12 to 6 volt, gave me wiring diagram. I hooked it up and tractor worked better than it had for years. Within 1 year I had changed all my tractors to alternator. I was one of these guys, going to keep my 50 year old tractors original. I have now changed my view on that. If we can improve on what IH built 50 years ago, it is our duty to do so. I really don't care whether you go 6 volt or 12 volt, just go alternator.

Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
