Both of Nat's posts are correct. The curved pipe seat as shown in Williamf's photo replaced a similar seat on the 39-40 H's and M's, it had the small spring in front but did not have the curved pipe, otherwise similar. IH had a deluxe seat, the one with the large spring and small shock in the middle. I believe the "Monroe" seat, the one with the large shock in the rear was available prior to the deluxe seat. The deluxe seat and the curved pipe seat were sold at the same time, with the deluxe seat being found on most of the later model. I was only 10 at the time, but my dad bought a 1947 H in Jan 1948 that had the Monroe seat. Far as I'm concerned it came from the factory that way, meaning that Monroe supplied IH with that seat, but it could have been dealer installed. I do not know whether the deluxe seat and the Monroe seat were sold at the same time. The battery under the seat first appeared on the C, and was then used on Stage 2 Super H's and M's and later models.
