With only 42 acres, the choice between gas and diesel hardly enter the picture in terms of fuel consumption. You are talking about a tractor that will see about 25-35 hours of use in a year. With those kinds of hours, your talking about saving $40-$80 a YEAR in the differance of fuel costs. How many years will it take to pay the premium of owning a diesel over a gas? If you were looking at 600-800 hours of operation in a year the diesel starts looking a lot more attractive. The 6 cylinder gas in the 656 is more efficient the 4 cylinder in the M, especially under light load. With the small acreage you are looking at I would concentrate on finding the one in the best possible condition. Your possible future repair bills are of much more concern then the differance in fuel costs.
