Let me start at the beginning. When I got this Cub it was doing this: Engine started and ran fine, gauge showed NO charge but battery never went dead.took gauge off and tested it on my M and it indeed was not working. Had a spare gauge in the shop so I put it on and it has been doing fine since,like I descibed in my previous post. Last weekend I pulled it out of the barn and immediately noticed the gauge wasnt moving. Pulled the generator off and took it to my local guy for testing, not putting out anything. He found the windings shorted out.had it rewound for 12 volt,new regualtor put on and at his shop,it was charging like 38 amps at 2000 rpms and I was pleased so I put it back on, wired correctly and polarized correctly,new 12 volt battery.Starts up,gauge jumps to `10-12 or so then slowly comes back down, so I am thinking everything is fine.Well,I usually turn off the gas when I shut it down and let it run out then push in the kill switch,but this time I forgot. Went out yesterday and found a completely dead battery.used my little battery pack thing to jump it off and looked at the gauge,up to 20 and a little past and then slowly came back down to where it is usually at when its running,-2 maybe a liittle closer to -1. But why wouldnt the generator keep charging? I can see when the battery is fully charged,but when its dead?
