dumb question on axle oil in 100

This question comes from my ignorance of this part of the machine, I've never messed with it before, am really new to this tractor altogether. When I took out the left axle on the 100, it was dry. Took it out to change the bearings because it was howling and I could rock the wheel. Don't see anywhere to put oil in it, and the gearbox was full. Do you just fill the little pan before it goes back on or is something stopped up, or am I missing it? Matt.
