About your racing engine. Pull the carb bet the butterfly is loose. Happened to me a couple of years ago. Fun trip in road gear. FIND THE SCREWS. If they go thru the engine will probably chip a valve. last valve I bought was $8. Unless the entire head needs reworked only need to replace the damaged valve. the screw won't mess up the entire head but if showing signs of needing it now is a good time to do it. Of course if the butterfly is intact - never mind. But I'd put money on it.
