Just a thought --- I had a short in the starter solenoid case that drained the battery in a short time. The case got hot as heck and I noticed it by chance (aka a burn to my hand). This is probably a very rare problem. You can determine if it is shorted by putting an ohmmeter from each of the two major solenoid terminals to the frame (disconnect battery). It should read infinite ohms.
