How about the coil? if it gets hot, which would take maybe that length of time. It's a possibility. But, You are saying it has to be jumped to get it started. HMMMM! It sounds like a very large drain on the battery to me. When you charge the battery again, make sure to disconnect one of the terminals. Charge it up. When you go to connect up the cable, see if you are getting a spark with everything off. Then turn on ignition switch and see if you get a spark. Now when I mean spark, I'am talking with everything turned off, their should not be any. With ignition on, their may or may not be a spark, depending if the points are closed. It should be a very minute spark even with points closed. It would appear to me from what you describe, a very large current draw. possibly, it comes when the engine is running. Another possibility is, the points in regulator are sticking, which would cause the generator to try to motor. This in it self would cause a great draw on the battery. If possible, I would disconnect the generator belt. Now with the battery charged, touch the cable to the battery. If the generator tries to turn. You have a stuck regulator, or short between the armature and ground on the generator. This will try to motor it. Good luck.
