Instead of filing the points, after which they'll NEVER be as good as they were with the original factory finish, get a strip of clean white paper cardstock and draw it through the (closed) points several times to remove gunk and corrosion. Then, rotate the engine over until the points are open, and finish the job with a squirt of electrical contact cleaner, to remove any lint from the paper strip. Alow the cleaner to evaporate before attempting to again check for spark.
