Well, when I got this running the other day, I did have the valve cover off to adjust valve lash while engine was running, so I know some oil may have sprinkled on the resistor. Will try your suggestion on disconnecting the wire from the coil and see if the resistor still smokes. Funny, because the lights swtich works just fine, and headlights turn on as intended. But those work without pulling the start/stop switch. When I pull the start/stop switch with no accesories turned on, that darned resistor smokes to beat the band. I appreciate your help, so thank you.
