Check carb type. There is a 50981 DA for high compression gas, and 45108 DB for gas or kerosene. The principle difference is in the main fuel adjusting screw seat. You may need to order a new needle and seat. There are only two adjustments to carb that can be made externally, not counting idle speed. They are made to the idle air needle, and main fuel jet adjuster. The initial setting for the main fuel adjusting screw is 2 1/2-3 1/2 turns open. The initial setting for the idle needle is 1-1/2 turns open. Re set after unit is warm. The internal setting is height of float. It is set @ 1 27/32" from upper body with a fuel level of 7/8"
Remove governor. Take the plate off governor, and look at spring and linkage. Replace broken or worn parts.
Check linkage, weights, and bearings.
Correct idle speed is 450 rpm. Inside governor there are two adjustments.
With speed control at idle, the upper stop screw should be adjusted to touch it's stop, no tension on governor spring. Place speed control in wide open position. Adjusting screw for high speed should be touching stop. You need a tachometer to set this at 1815 rpm. Then you have to check that linkage to butterfly is adjusted to allow for wide open throttle. To do this you need to align pin and adjusting block underneath the ventilating tube for free movement and no binding. Once you have it right, leave it alone! Good idea to check intake manifold gaskets, and replace all gaskets attaching carb to manifold. Air leakage is a bad thing!
