I had that problem with my 1945 H.When I changed the points ,I didnt get the wire just right that connects to the points and it was grounding out on the inside of the magneter.I check my magneters by taking them off and putting them in a vise ,then I take a drill with a wire brush on it,set it to run counter clockwise ,put it to the back side of the magneter and spin it while holding the coil wire about a quarter inch off the side of the magneter case.You should get a blue spark if its good.Be careful not to hold the end of the wire in your hand.Good luck
