Hi Eric, the filter is in the return line in the front of the reservoir under the seat. When you sit on the seat and look down at the top of the transmission cover between your legs on the right side you will see two steel hydraulic lines from the hydraulic pump to the reservoir. The small one is the pressure line and the large one is the return/suction line. The filter is on the end of the suction line in the reservoir.
To remove the filter without loosing Hytran fluid, park the tractor on a steep incline with front pointing up. Lock parking brake, turn engine off and put transmission in reverse gear LO range.
On the suction line, about 6 inches from the reservoir you will see a rubber sleeve with two hose clamps on it. Clean all the dirt from this area, loosen hose clamps and slide rubber sleeve forward on the suction line until the joint in the suction line is exposed. The suction line towards the reservoir has a slight curve to it, now rotate this section of the suction line until the curve allows this section to be clear of the section to the hydraulic pump. Now carefully pull the section in the reservoir towards the front of the tractor. Becareful to pull in a straight line as not to damage the filter screen that will come out of the reservoir.
Clean filter screen with solvent and dry. Put some lubricant on the "O" ring seal and re-install in reverse order.
Hope this helps. Can't remember Hytran capacity. The fluid can also be drained from the suction line by putting a piece of flexible hose on the suction line into a container. To drain the system you would not park the tractor on an incline.

Good Luck
JB2

Today's Featured Article - Box Plow Blues - by Tom Schwarz. One of the first implements most tractor owners obtain is the box plow. For very little money, this piece of equipment promises to plow and flatten any hill or vale on your ranch road or farm. At least that's what I thought! As simple as a box plow appears, it can be rather challenging to make work correctly. In our sandy soils of Florida, traction is king. You can never have wide enough tires or heavy enough weights to get all the traction you want … unless you own a monster tractor. U ... [Read Article]
