I've worked on the M water pump, but not an H. However, I think they are basically the same. There should be two grease fittings on there. One greases the bearings and the other the packing. If fan has play in it (that is you can move it up/down and side to side) to speak of, then the only fix will be new bearings and while you are at it new seals. If it's only in the water pump shaft, then new packing should do it. The fan assembly has two ball bearings that are grease lubed with all the associated seals (front and back end). The water pump shaft drives off spring loaded assembly attached to the fan and is full floating so there is no load from the fan belt on the WP shaft. This is an exceptionaly well designed set up and when you take it apart, you will realize why they are still running after 60 years, mostly with no trouble. If the rattling noise is just from the fan, maybe the bolts that hold it on are loose. The M service manual has a very good cross section of the WP set up. I suppose the service manual for the H would show the same. Well worth the price of a manual reprint it you are into restoring the tractor. Also, to get to that thing to work on it, nearly essential to remove the radiator.
