As others said, STOP! If you try to pry off that "cover" you will break something. That cover is the bearing holder and cage for the pinion gear, shaft and bearings. It overlaps the bull gear and can't be removed until the transmission is opened and the bull gear taken off the axle. It's possible to replace the seals without removing the pinion cage. I doubt the gaskets behind the pinion cage are leaking enough to be a problem. I'd try just replacing the seals, because removing that pinion cage is a big job.
