If you're on flat land and hitched to the standard drawbar, you're probably okay. Part of the problem (as mentioned in another post below) is that these things are about 50 years old and are not small tractors! People are still finding ways to use them, and in the process have often upped the horsepower considerably, added bigger tires, and hitched them to devices larger and different than they were intended to pull!

We farmed many years with an M and a SuperM. I've seen the front wheels of each come off the ground 2" or so under heavy load. A good M that's properly hooked up has a nearly equal balance between power and traction. Lots of times I've pulled heavy wagons out of a field when the front was so light I had to use the brakes to steer though the gate. I put a 3-16 JD mounted plow on the 3pt hitch of my M and had to add weight to the front to make it a useable combination. Only one time did we ever have a "near-flip" while working. My dad was running the SuperM with a 4-14 Moline trailing plow. He hooked into a big rock, and the trip-back beam on the plow did NOT trip. The plow stopped, and the tractor (in 3rd gear) had the front about 3 feet off the ground when he hit the clutch!! We took the plow to the barn and made sure the trip mechanisms all worked before we plowed any more that day!
