I don't know that specific tractor, but I know that
on some of my equipment, they intentionally
use lower voltage glow plugs with a 12 volt
system so that the glow plugs warm up faster
and provide a faster start. It seems like they
would burn out, but they don't. I suppose part
of the reasoning is that when the glow plugs
are engaged, the system voltage drops below
12V anyway. My 12V Navistar diesel has used
6V glow plugs from the factory, and they rarely
go bad. No attempt is made to reduce the
voltage to the glow plug.
