300 Transmission Update - Hugh McKay and Kelly C

Well I got the gear I needed for the 300 yesterday and began installing it today. I got the tractor and the upper shaft and gears out pretty easily. However, as luck would have it the gear is for the lower counter rotating shaft and it is giving me some trouble. I got the retaining bolts out of the center bearing holder but cannot get the PTO unit out of the rearend. Without removing the PTO I do not see how I can get the lower shaft out. I can't drive it back far enough to lift it out because it hits the PTO drive shaft. I removed the 4 larger long bolts from the PTO housing as well and the bolts on the smaller inside(I don't think I need to remove the bolts on the inside but did because I was having so much trouble getting the PTO off). The PTO unit is still very tight. I think it is just stuck in the housing. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get the PTO unit off? I am afraid to bang in too hard for fear that I will crack it and besides there is very little room to hit or pry it anyway. If I could just get it removed I think it would go pretty smoothly.
