Joe, the normal place for the serial number plate would have been on the inside orf the left hand seat support bracket. Keep in mind that the newest B would be 57 yrs old so many things can get changed in that span. Many folks removed the original seat configuration and installed the monroe system which no longer required the factory seat brackets. That would cause the serial number plate to be removed also. If you dont have a plate, however, there is a machined surface on the engine block directly beneath #1 sparkplug (front) scrape the paint off and wire brush that surface and perhaps you can read the engine number. If it has FAB prefix then you have a good chance that it is the original engine, but still no guarantee as it could have been replaced with another engine from a B. If the serial number falls within the parameters of the rest of the casting codes that further gives reason to believe that the engine is original to the tractor. the B should have a casting suffix codes of J, K, L, M, N, O, P, J being 1941, P being 1947. The menu on the left is helpful in finding and matching serial numbers. As to worth, I"ll tell you as I tell anyone else who asks that question after buying a tractor. It is worth exactly what you paid for it. It may be worth more or less to someone else, but what you paid is what it is worth to you. At this point, the money has been spent, you own a tractor, and now the fun begins. Enjoy your new toy.
